On February 12, 2016, I judged the ABA Client Counseling Regional Competition at Western Michigan Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Teams competed from the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia and were judged by a three-member judging panel comprised of local attorneys, professors, and counselors.
This was a project our GR office did by collecting food items for a good cause. On Dec. 4 we all got together to pack them in boxes to send to our troops over seas. We hope it will give them a little cheer around Christmas!
Women Lawyers faced the Judges in a softball game at Comerica Park. All proceeds and contributions were donated to the local YWCA.
Taking a break from firm obligations, I worked with a team of Grand Rapids residents helping to protect native vegetation in a nature preserve imperiled by invasive species . We chopped out lots of nasty plants. This work is directed by the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, which holds as its motto “Nature Nearby”. It was great fun to work with a great team of volunteers.
Every Sunday at my church in Jenison, Georgetown United Methodist, I help to setup (and clean up) and serve coffee and other goodies during our fellowship hour between services. I have been active in this ministry for three years and enjoy the opportunity to greet and get to know people better in this social setting. […]
